Practical English (Shiatsu) Course Overview & Lesson Plan

  • In this course, students will improve their spoken English using three different training methods: Gabby Sprint Training, Dialogue Practice, and Phono-Focus Pronunciation Training.

  • Incorporate the Color Vowel Approach as much as possible into your live coaching sessions (when reviewing sprints, providing feedback and correction, etc.).

Live Coaching 25-minute Sessions
Weeks 3-11
Starting in Week 3, each session will include:
  • 2-3 minutes of free speaking (warm-up, check-in)
  • 10 minutes of Gabby Sprint Training (1-3 sprints)
  • 8-10 minutes of Dialogue Practice
  • 2-3 minutes of Dialogue Practice homework review
  • 2-3 minutes to assign and confirm homework for the week (Gabby Sprint Training [How many sprints/day?] and Dialogue Practice [How much time to spend/how many days per week?])

Training Method Descriptions
Gabby Sprint Training Overview
  • Conduct a pre-assessment in Week 1 and a post-assessment in Week 12.
  • Conduct Gabby sprints with students in their live coaching sessions, starting in Week 3.
    Conduct 1-3 sprints each session for about 10 minutes out of 25.
  • Assign the usual number of weekly sprints for homework, which should amount to about 10 minutes of daily practice.
Dialogue Practice Overview
  • Conduct Dialogue Practice activities with students in their live coaching sessions, starting in Week 3 (pre-lesson homework is assigned in Week 2). Follow the curriculum outline.
  • The Dialogue Practice activities should take about 8-10 of the 25 minutes in each live session. Follow the instructions on each slide.
  • Finish by reviewing students’ Dialogue Practice homework for the following week with them.
Dialogue Practice Content
There are 5 sets of Dialogue Practice (Sets A-E). These sets include shiatsu-specific phrases, vocabulary and dialogue.
Each set includes 2 weeks of materials:

Week 1
Pre-lesson homework
Dialogue Audio (with photo)
Dialogue Practice (with Color Vowel symbols)

Week 2
Mid-lesson homework
Dialogue Audio (with photo)
Target Language Practice (using a Color Vowel-inspired chant)
Target Language Review (with Color Vowel symbols)
Phono-Focus Pronunciation Training: Overview
  • Daily Phono-Focus training and practice videos will be assigned based on the student’s AI assessment results.
  • Conduct one pronunciation check-in session in Week 2. Optional materials are available on Google Drive:Week 2 Live Session Materials (pronunciation check-in). Coaches can also use their own Color Vowel materials in this session.
